    WAAPC American School follows a rigorous and internationally recognized curriculum that combines the International Curriculum Association (ICA) frameworks with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), providing a comprehensive, inquiry-based, and academically strong education, alongside a rigorous high school program backed by the College Board Advanced Placement suits, and the GED. Early Childhood to Middle School (2-14) IEYC(International Early Years Curriculum)-Ages 2-5 (Pre-k to Kindergarten) IPC (International Primary Curriculum)-Ages 5-11(Grade 1-5) IMYC (International Middle Years Curriculum) -Ages 11-14 (Grade 6-8) High School (Ages 14-18) Pre-AP (Pre-Advanced Placement) Curriculum - Ages 14-16 (Grades 9-10) AP (Advanced Placement) Curriculum -Ages 16-18 (Grades 11-12) GED (General Educational Development) Option- Age 18+ (Alternative High School equivalency for grade 12 students)
  • What is the International Curriculum Association?
    The International Curriculum Association (ICA) is a global educational organization that develops internationally recognized curricula focused on inquiry-based, student-centered learning. ICA’s frameworks emphasize critical thinking, interdisciplinary skills, and global perspectives, making them ideal for international schools. ICA offers three main curricula: International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) for children aged 2–5, focusing on play-based learning and early development. International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for students aged 5–11, integrating thematic and inquiry-based learning across subjects. International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) for students aged 11–14, designed to develop critical thinking and interdisciplinary understanding.
  • Does the school provide Learning Support?
    The School has Learning Support Specialists who provide additional support for selected learners. This support may be given within the mainstream class or, on occasion, learners may be withdrawn for specialist lessons. All applicants are assessed to see how the school is able to effectively cater for learners needs.

    State-of-the-art ICT facilities, swimming pool, tennis courts, football field, fully equipped auditorium theatre, Primary and Secondary library, cafeteria, science laboratories, and art (music/dance/painting) rooms. Boarding facilities are also available.

    Yes, after they have undergone the assessment required by the school. However, this situation is avoided as it can be unsettling for the child.

    At our school, students take an English Level Test (ELT) to assess their proficiency. Based on the results, students may be enrolled in the English Language Support (ELS) program, offered as part of the Wednesday after-school service to help improve their English skills.

The school also observes public holidays, which include a combination of local (Ivorian) and American holidays. What is the academic year? Our school follows the American academic year, which typically starts in August or September and ends in May or June.
